Telemarketing: latest reports
Live sales and marketing calls that visitors did not ask for.
Common signs
- A live caller reading from a script about an offer, subscription or service.
- A "limited time" offer, or a request to confirm details they claim to already have.
What to do
- Say clearly: "Put me on your do-not-call list", then hang up.
- Note the company name and date. Legitimate sellers must honour that request.
- Register your number on the National Do Not Call Registry if you have not.
What to avoid
- Do not agree to anything on the call, including a "free trial".
- Do not confirm your card or bank details to "verify" an offer.
Questions people ask
How do I stop calls from one company?
Ask to be added to the company's own do-not-call list and keep a note of when you asked. Continued calls after that can be reported.
